Chris Skidmore, Member of Parliament for the marginal seat of Kingswood since 2010, was Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation for 8 months. In July 2019 he was made Minister of State for Health.

However, he used his short tenure as Universities Minister to urge universities to become, among other things, more accessible to disabled students and more inclusive of all political and ideological standpoints.
